3 Tips for Continued Growth and Success

by PJ McClure on September 19, 2011

Personal growth is not just a natural process.Yes, it’s true that you can grow physically for a period of time, but even that only lasts for a while without proper nourishment. Optimal growth is an intentional process.

In order to get very intentional about our own personal growth, which is tied directly to our continued level of success, we need to develop a certain mindset. Here are 3 tips to developing your growth mindset and guaranteeing continued success.

  1. Realize that you are not stuck with the hand you’re dealt. Too many people just accept their circumstances and allow them to define who they are. “I’m not good at math.” “I’m not a people person.” “I have a short temper.” All of these and many more are not permanent conditions. They can change with directed, intentional work.
  2. Embrace the humility that comes with being willing to grow. You don’t know it all…neither does anyone else. It’s easy to say, but when we embrace it as fact we are humbled and liberated. “No, I don’t know it all. That’s what gives everyday meaning and allows me to always grow!”
  3. Use someone else’s brain to save time and energy. A popular measure of an expert is that it takes 10,000 hours of study and involvement in a subject to become an expert on that subject. Do you have 10,000 hours to dedicate to everything you would like to know? Me either. That’s why we utilize experts. Find someone you like and trust to be your expert and allow them to short cut the process for you.

The job of going from being a failure to being as good as everyone else (aka. average) doesn’t take a lot of work. However, going from average to great in anything requires focus and execution (aka. work).

When we approach the work we need to do from a perspective of personal growth and allowing ourselves to get better, the entire job changes perspective. We become adventurous and more willing to try new things. Possibilities that were once dismissed instantly are considered worthy of our attention and often lead to breakthroughs.

Life expands and success takes hold.

Use these 3 tips to set yourself up for an attitude of continued learning and growth. Tune your mindset to look for opportunities to grow and improve so that success is a recurring constant in your life.
